As centre of excellence maximum training facilities are provided to the staff and students of this Institute at 4 star and 5 star category hotels. Thus bringing in professionalism in academics on par with operations.

Staff Training:
                Staff have been sent for training periodically arranged by the Institute according to the Govt. of India, Ministry of Tourism instructions and to be abreast with the changes in the Hospitality and Hotel industries thus bringing professionalism, modern technology and academics at par with operations.

Medical Check up:
                Medical check ups done  by Red Cross Society are held twice a year to identify any physical problems as a prevention so that all students in the Catering Industry handling food and coming in directly with the guest may be in good health.

Blood grouping:
                Blood grouping is also done by the Red Cross Society which is indicated on the Identity card for the purpose of any emergency.

Attendance:
                According to the norms of the National Council for Hotel Management, New Delhi all candidates admitted to the various courses will be required to put in a minimum of 70% of attendance in each subject and overall 75% attendance during the academic session.  Students failing to secure overall 75% attendance shall be detained from appearing in the Annual Examinations to be conducted by the National Council.  The Principal of the Institute is empowered to condone upto 10% of absence on medical grounds or for any other valid reasons.  Such requests in writing should however, be accompanied by leave letter / medical certificate issued by any registered medical practitioner immediately after the sickness / valid reasons for absence. 

            This will be strictly adhered to, to ensure maximum learning by attending classes, academic proficiency and to acquire good results.

Identity Card:
                The students are given identity cards at the beginning of the year which they have to preserve it with utmost care which is to be used while in the classes and for other benefits outside the college for membership in other libraries, students concessions, internet etc.

Concessions:
                Local train and bus concession are provided for all the local students. Out station students are issued with concession for their travel during Winter/Summer vacations only.

Locker facilities:
                Locker facilities are provided on payment of Rs.50.00.

Students Activities:
                Regular student activities held round the year to encourage the students to develop all round efficiency like various competitions, quiz, food festivals, fairs, seminars, conferences, workshops and other tourism oriented activities.

Canteen facilities:
                Sale of tea, coffee and snacks are carried out in the canteen at cost price for the use of staff and students.

Out door catering:
                The Institute undertakes out door catering and also provides personnel for out door catering services at different Hotels as nominated accordingly to encourage the students to develop their skill, situation handling, team work, execution, attitude and knowledge about banquet service in star hotels held for important and esteemed guests.

Out Catering Programme and Students Training

                Government Departments, other public and private organizations approach the Institute to take up out-catering for their official functions and this is undertaken as it provides training and avenues to earn revenues. Such revenue has helped to cover the deficit.

Capacity Building for Service Providers: 

               This Institute has been rendering services in the Catering Education to bring in professionalism  and quality in the day to day performance in all the staff of different designations in the personnel employment in Hotels, Industrial Canteens, Fast Food Centres, Theme Restaurant, Clubs, Catering & Hotel Management Establishments, Self Entrepreneurs, Off Shore Catering staff etc.

              Existing Food Craft Institutes, Institutes of Hotel Management and other tourism related institutes in the private sector cater mainly to the organized sector.   Department of Tourism, Govt. of India plans to train the persons in the unorganized sector consisting   of small hotels, dhabas, restaurants and other eatable joints  spread  all over the country.  It also plans to launch a comprehensive scheme for training of tourist guides and other Service Providers as listed below. 

              In this connection this Institute has been identified for implementation of the special scheme for Capacity Building for Service  Providers by the Govt. of India,  Dept. of Tourism, HRD Division, and this Institute imparting training in the following aspects  to improve  knowledge, skill and attitude of  the staff of different organizations.

              Service Providers meaning those persons  engaged in providing  services to a tourist will be termed as Service Providers viz persons employed in Hotels/restaurants/Eating joints such as Cooks/Servers/waiters/helpers/Front Office Staff/ reception Counter staff/food  kiosks/Dhaba Staff/Personnel engaged in handling tourists viz. immigration  staff/airport staff/State Tourism Dept. staff/Security staff, Police Department staff/Guides/Monuments staff/Tourist Centre staff/Taxi/bus driver and Coach staff.

Adhoc Training Programmes  - Short Term Course in Tourism Awareness under Capacity Building for Service Providers   as per the guidelines/nature of training  given, for the cooks, waiters  of Hotel staff,  and from unorganised sector - dhaba staff, street vendors,  of 1 day/2 days/4  hours duration   has been conducted in  Chennai and various parts of Tamil Nadu.                                                                      

So far from 2003-04 to  2006-07  under  CBSP programme, 36 programmes were conducted  and 2043  persons were trained.

 The trainees  have been paid a stipend of Rs.100.00 per day.

2006-07

ADHOC TRAINING PROGRAMME / SHORT TERM COURSE, TRADE TESTS, ETC., CONDUCTED BY THE INSTITUTE DURING 2006-07: -  

  • Two batches of 2 Weeks Adhoc Training Programme in Food Production  has been conducted  during 18.12.2006 to 29.12.2006 (15)  and 5.2.07 to 15.2.2007 (15) for the Cooks deputed by Air Force Station, Tambaram, Chennai and a sum of Rs.96,900.00  has been  collected towards course fee etc.
  •  6 batches of 3-Days Refresher Training programme conducted  for the Cooks and Stewards deputed by  Indian Railways   Catering & Tourism Corpn., Chennai organized by Indiatourism-Chennai during 12th Feb. 2007  to 8th Mar. 2007.    A sum of Rs.83,600.00  has been collected towards Hall Charges, Lunch/tea/coffee charges.  A total No. of 584 stewards and 76 cooks were   attended the programme.  Honorarium to the faculty members for the classes conducted have been paid by Indiatourism-Chennai under CBSP programme.
  • A one week  theory training programme on Kitchen, Food Hygiene and Healthy Cooking   from 26.2.2007 to 2.3.2007 were conducted for the male cooks of Hostels of

Backward Classes and SC/ST   students   deputed by Dist. Welfare Officer,    Dept.  of Backward  Classes & Minorities, GOTN., Chennai at free of cost.

  •  Three months Certificate Course in Catering Technology conducted for 22 SHG Women              deputed    by Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Chennai  under specialized skill training programme during 12.3.2007 to 11.6.2007 and a sum of Rs.88,000.00   has been collected towards course fee etc.

  • Coaching Classes for JEE 2007  candidates  were conducted  from 22.3.2007 to                14.4.2007  and  a sum of Rs.1,27,000.00 has  been collected  towards coaching fee etc.
